New member, Father, Son Project
Hey everyone, I'm glad to be a part of the site, son and I just purchased 02 Camaro 5 speed manual, it ran decent enough, if you didn't get really in iti seemed to bog down, maybe burning extremely rich so I drove her gradually home. Once home I did notice it had a forced air filters like Spectra or something, it's missing what I would call the mass air flow sensor collar with wire connection just stubbed into cone aftermarket filter.
when you turn key to on position dummy lights come on besides the Service engine light doesn't dispay at all, wich tells me blown fuse or pcm not hooked up... PO said motor was replaced last year with approximately 55,000 miles on it, it's has a 3800 in it, not even sure if that was an option that year. I would like to get some #'s off engine to even see if it's was replaced, how would I know and where is the pcm located under hood. Thanks in advance.

PCM not hooked up or without power would equal no start. No collar like the old school MAF sensor. It just goes right into the throttle body.
I would get is scanned for codes.

Check Engine or Service Engine Soon
Got another one for ya on pre ignition, key in on position, the Check engine light comes on briefly and goes out I noticed in the manual it shows a Service Engine Soon lamp on the right side of gauge pod in which doesnt luminate at all. Does this 2002 model display both or just 1 or the other. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

I do not ever remember seeing my service engine soon light in my 2000. Check out OBD2 blue tooth adapters on Amazon. I think I paid $12 for the last one I bought. Then check what every smart phone you have for apps. There are free ones but I think I bought one for $5. With the 02 I think you can even read brake and ABS codes.
I actual found a 4 year old fireX kindle that my wife had put in a draw and never used. It makes a great scanner.
If I am reading the above right you have lack of power and no check engine light. This can be a lot of things but the normal suspect would be Fuel pressure/fuel filter or a plugged cat.
