Default New to Camaros and the site - Just bought a 68

I will be picking up a 1968 350 camaro tomorrow.

Its a little rough but motor is a newer crate 350, body is sound, interior and paint need love but I am ready to begin the journey.

I have always wanted a Firs Gen Camaro and I am ready to fulfill my dream.

More details to come and I look forward to learning from all the old vets around here.

cool, congrats and welcome to the forum. post up pictures when you can, photobucket works ok. just copy img code to post. you can also start up a build/restore thread for it to keep a history on it. good to have you on the site. enjoy.

Welcome, New Owner
Correct year '68's rule...
Keep a log book of all parts bought and any changes you make and you find within the Camaro.

I couldn't be happier - The car runs fantastic and drives extremely well.

I have yet to figure out exactly what has and hasn't been done to the car yet but from driving it and doing a detailed inspection I am ecstatic for what I paid.

I am so fired up I just want to start ordering parts for the interior and getting paint estimates ASAP but I need to slow down and get a build plan together.

I have a million questions and cant wait to get started.

Welcome to Camaro Forums. Even though it's not the voted most popular ever 69, it's still a nice car. Congrats!
Looks like someone cut out the wheel openings and added a small flare to it.

Nice enough for a good start.
Camaro script on front fenders is missing.
Hopefully, you have OE window moldings as I have read some of the aftermarket stainless moldings don't fit quite right.
Heartbeat City is a good OE place, but then, you pay for it also.
Center bolt valve covers mean later heads or engine assembly.
Engine code is front deck pass side in front of cylinder head
The pad will have date engine made, place of manufacture/assembly, engine code as to what it was born as, and partial VIN of donor vehicle if not a crate engine.

I know the motor is a crate 350 from about 3-4 years ago with minimal miles.

Transmission is a 4 spd muncie.

Based on history it looks like it has 116k on the car and about 3k on the new motor.

Unable to determine exact model from VIN codes but I know for sure it was a V8 based on the Cowel Code. Pretty sure Tranny is original and that will give me a good idea as it is a Muncie 4 speed.

Car was originally an AC car but there is no heat or air currently

I put 150 miles on it this weekend and she drives great minus brakes that are a little soft. They are disk but they definitely need love.

Even after 4 hours of cleaning and moving garage around to get car in I am still all smiles to see her in the garage.

My dream is taking hold and I am blessed to be able to share it with my son who is excited as I am.

Yes, you are blessed for the enjoyment of owning the correct year.
If trans is original, then partial VIN should be stamped on pass side of trans midways on middle plate.
Trim Tag by master cylinder will have some codes of assembly.
Read decoding of tag at www.camaros,org
