Default Hi guys, looking to get into 5th/6th gen Camaro

Hello all, just looking for some advice before I eventually go to the Chevy dealers. I've already test driven the new 2016 Camaro V6 AT - wicked fun in the Alpha platform, and amazing deals to be had with the 20% off MSRP going on. However, I noticed that there are actually some 5th gen Camaro 2SSs at about the same price in Chevy's CPO inventory.

Is the 1LT 2.0T/V6 Camaro Alpha platform worth it, or would you rather have the V8 Camaro 2SS from the Zeta platform?

welcome ,some dont even like to hear about a pony car with 4 cycle engine, but that car was one of car an drivers mag top 10 ,one thing impressive to me is you cant compare it to the iron duke engine of the 80s with 80hp to its 275hp very close to ,the lt1 as far as power the v6 very impressive ,if i could get a v8 ss for close to what the v6 car is then i would get the ss car for $1500.00 more ,but i wont see myself in 5th gen or 6th gen until there are not a ton of deals left on the 4th gen cars an the ls1 cars 98-02

I know it is a little late but welcome aboard.

To answer your question it depends. there are many variables. What will the car be used for. Budget. Not just as far as car payment but upkeep , insurance and so on. Resale value matter?

4 cylinder will be cheaper on gas. insurance will be cheaper. You can do some upgrades and mods if that is your taste. Resale will be less than the 2SS

2SS you will have power with decent mileage. I have one and get almost 20 to the city. insurance of course is more. And I have no points. Ever. Still can do upgrades as I am also doing. I am doing mostly cosmetic stuff right now. Always holds it's value for resale better than the V6 or V4

For me, it is just so easy to get more out of the V8 (resale, power , and so on) than it would be out of the 4 cylinder. But you will have to be the one to answer the above questions and come up with the best answer.

The car will be used as a daily driver, commute not exceeding more than 15 miles at most. Budget is to try and get $25k OTD.

My insurance actually has the older 2SS cheaper than the 2016 turbo by $20 (same for the 2016 V6, also cheaper). Looking to keep it for the long-term.

I just want to make sure it's just me: does anyone feel like the 2016 8-speed automatic V6 is...shifting very laggy? I took it for a test drive and it felt like forever for it to get to the next gear when driving in city traffic.

Cheaper because you are looking at a brand new 6th Gen compared to an older 5th gen. I also drive mine back and forth to work. I switch between the Tahoe, 93Z28 and, my 2SS. I love the sound of the LS3. Rumble, pop, and all. I just do not see myself being happy with a 6 or 4 cylinder. I mean, it would get me there and back of course. but if I am going to spend my hard earned money, I want to enjoy it.......But that is me
