Help with truck ls 6.0
New here, and pretty new to newer gm projects. Sorry, but I'm a Ford Mopar guy. Have a question on a possible project.
1995 V6, wanting to put in a 6.0ls in. Have a 2002 GMC 2500 pickup that has been rolled over and pretty much flat. What do I need to "try" and salvage as far as wiring and computers to swap into a 95? Just the engine.
Basically looking to drop a 6.0ls into it that will run with a th350 or powerglpowerglide
End goal, drag race only. What would be the best route to take?
Not worried about fitment or k member problems. Couldn't find a thread on this. If there is one, thank you for pointing me there. Just want cut and dry answer.
Thank you again

It all depends on what you need to work. I don’t think you will have much luck getting the 02 PCM to talk to the 95 OBD1 system. So things like Speedometer, tach, ABS, traction control are not going to work. Basically your 04 PCM will become a standalone engine management system.
With the 02 PCM getting the engine running is not hard. You would be able to strip out about 5 lbs of wire from the harness. The PCM would need a bunch of stuff programmed out.
We had one member do a V6 swap to a 5.3 and he made just about everything work but I believe that was with a Camaro PCM and custom made harnesses and it was a OBD2 car to start with.

Is the PCM located in the engine compartment on the pickup? Or in the cab? I can trace the harness kind of. The pickup is about as flat as it can be, but the engine itself is unharmed. It will be rebuilt
