Default Hello fellas!!

Hello everyone, My name is Tony 39yrs old from N.Y. Just came across this forum and hope to hang with the boys that know a few things about taking care of there Camaro's. I see I have lots to learn here. Just picked up a 1997 30th year anniversary Camaro Z28 for my birthday. Looks and feels great, a few cracks in the paint but over all the thing looks and rides HOT!! I think the color is called Hunter Green (Metallic green) with T-tops. It's a far cry from the 94 red Camaro V-6 that I had in Florida that my X-girlfriend wrecked!! NEVER AGAIN!! I didnt realize how much power the Z28 want's to unleash!! So far I had a problem with no heat or defrost. I changed the thermosat and flushed the heater core and that took care of it all.. I see on the dash that 2 lights are on and I hope that they are small problems. I would like some input on what you guys think. 1 light is says "ABS-INOP" and the other is something about the "Traction". I asked the dealer about the traction thing and he said it just may be the switch or a fuse. I dont want to take his word for it as he probably just wanted to make his sale. Thanks guys!!

Any pics of the '97? Sounds like you bought a car you'll really enjoy. I had a friend with a '96 Z28 and he had the same problems you have. For him, it ended up being the wheels he had on the car. He had some oddball 1980's-style aluminum rims. I sold him a set of "salad-shooters" I didn't need anymore, and it cleared up the problems.

I dont know what salad shooters are, but my car has the original 5 star chrome rims on it. Also I just got back from the car and the light actually says "ASR OFF", this is what the dealer told me it has to do with the switch or fuse.. I'm going to post some pictures as soon as I get a chance. It's a little darkout andthe lighting just isnt letting the pictures comeout right.. Still wondering about the "ABS INOP" also.

Welcome to the forum Tony. Post some pics up when you can.

As far as your lights go. The ABS inop is probably a wheel speed sensor, most likely problem, and to fix that you'd need to replace a wheel hub in the front. Get it scanned at autozone or the like and that will give you the code to pinpoint it. The ASR Off is telling you that your traction control is off, there might be a toggle switch on the dash somewhere that says ASR, if so, then switch that over and see what happens.

Thanks for the input on the "ABS INOP" As far as the toggle switch for the "ASR" , I switch it back and fourth and nothing happens. The dealer says it may just need a new switch or to check the fuse. I need to locate where the fuse is for it. I hope the owners manual has it. If not I will have to pick up a Haynes book, wich is probably a good idea anyway....

The fuse is on the drivers side, the fuse panel is on the side of the dash. The door for it will tell you what fuse is what.

Pic don't work BTW.

LOL.. No door cover on the fuse panel. That's why I'm hoping the owners manual will have, or when I get the Haynes book... Thanks for all your help!! I'll get some pics up as soon as I can..

It won't be your wheels with the pics you've shown. I'd go with what GreenArrow has said.
