Default First Timer - ‘68 Camaro

Hi everyone,
I have a couple other classic cars that I have inherited from my Dad but this is the first time I have purchased one of my own choosing. I look forward to learning more about maintaining it and keeping up with it myself, because I won’t be able to trust just anyone with it.
This one is fully restored and I am still breaking in the new motor. I look forward to making a few upgrades as I get more used to the car.
Is there anyone else located in Texas? I hope to attend a few local car shows/ meetups this spring! I look forward to learning from you all. ~ SJ

It can be tuff to find a shop that knows how to handle a classic. Unless you feel comfortable doing everything on the car you may need it at some point. Even restored cars can break down, heck I made a living just fixing brand new car for a few years. Keep in mind we are talking rebuilding transmissions and rears and In dash work.

What I would suggest, once the show season starts find the nicest cars and ask the owners who they use. There should be someone that know to use covers on their jacks and stands. They know to tape off paint area near where they are working. Once you find that place they will know who can replace glass or tweak body lines. I worked at at place like that, we did normal cars but we had everything we needed and processes to work on 120K 57 chevy. The mechanics did the repairs but the owner of the company himself would over see the classic car repair. He also did all the test drives. You may never need a shop like that but it is nice to know, Also if you can throw them some work. If you are thought as an existing customer then the manager/own will treat you and your car differently.

I found in my area a garage that the owner owns a sweet 69. I do most of the work on my 67 but he has done inspection and a front alignment for me. Now I use hig for my daily and my wifes car. He knows my name and my cars. He is not cheap but I think its worth it. He also respect the fact I do my own work and even calls to check on my wifes SUV if I want to do something or want him to.
