Almost a camaro owner
Howdy, I'm Tyler, but most of my friends call me T Hitt. I'm am almost def. gonna be buying a 98-2002 Camaro here in a couple months. Currently I'm looking at an 02 z28, but it's an auto and the tranny swaps usually cost around 3 grand from what I've heard, so I'm gonna keep looking around for now. If anybody has any tips on specific things to look at, it'd be appreciated. I go to work in the coal mines here in January and I'm gonna have mad money to drop into it (I'm a college student living at home so my bills are next to nothing). List of mods I'll probably do:
1) Tranny swap (if I get the auto)
2) SLP Loudmouth Exhaust (slash tip, not the dual tips, not a big fan of that look)
3) Cold air intake (not sure on brand, any suggestions?)
4) Racing Suspension (preferably one that doesn't drop the car too much, I live in WV and need all the clearance I can get for some of the roads around here)
5) Long tube headers
On down the road: supercharger, cam, 4.10 gears, basically the whole nine yards. Like I said, I'm gonna have plenty of money to drop into her and it will be a beast. Friend of mine has a 1990 300zx with huge intercoolers (and he plans on putting bigger injectors and turbos and 4.10 gears in it soon) and one of my goals will be to smoke him off the line. I've wanted a 98-02 camaro since I first got into cars, and it is finally my time.

The car I'm looking at is a 2002 Z28. Red with no noticeable scratches, black leather that is in very good condition, no rips or tears. T-tops. It's got a lil over 37,000 miles, which is one of the main reasons I'm considering it, even tho it is an auto. It runs perfect, test drove it the other day for about a half an hour. Power windows and locks, wheel mounted radio controls, One of my concerns is that it looks like it may have been in a minor accident, so I'm gonna have my cousin who works at a chevy/dodge dealership run the carfax for me (he can do it for free on any chevy or dodge). I say that because the hood spacing is a tiny bit off on the driver side and the quarter panel spacing is a tiny bit off when compared to the door as well (nothing rubs tho). Crawled under it and looked around pretty good and didn't see any other indications of a crash tho, so even if it was in one, it looks like it was just a very minor fender bender. They're asking 13 grand for it.
Summary: 2002 Camaro z28, good condition, 37k miles, for 13 grand. Sound like a good deal? I think it is, but, then again, I reeeaaallly want a camaro, so I may just be telling myself it's a good deal

Welcome to the forum, the red 02 doesn't sound like a bad car, but I would still look for the 6speed if that's what you really want. It'll be well worth it to buy a car with that instead of swapping it.
yeah, I know, but I love how this one has low miles and as soon as I saw it I fell in love, you know? plus, this way I'd have a brand new tranny. I'm def. gonna keep looking but if I don't find another one I want within the next couple of weeks I'll prob get this one. And I mean, I won't be driving it in the winter (my current vehicle is a 98 Durango and that'd be my winter car), so I'd be in no hurry to do it (swap the tranny out I mean), and could take it nice and slow.

hay welcome to the forum. u fell for the camaro, all f bodys. lol. keep lookin if a 6 sp is what u want. auto is nice though and can be stiffened up fairly easily. nice to have both hands on the wheel when the tires break lose going into second.
Yeah. I mean, a lot of of my buddies detest autos, but I do think they have their applications. Esp some of the newer autos out there, like the one on the new evo with the dual clutch (GM has announced they will start using a dual clutch auto in 2012 too, fyi). But, I mean, it's a 4 speed auto, compared to a 6 speed manual, which is no contest to me, I want the 6 speed. If they was more evenly matched, with a 6 speed auto, I really wouldn't care either way. And one of my favorite aspects of the camaros were the high power with good gas mileage, and the autos don't get near the gas mileage the 6 speeds do (not that either is gonna be getting good gas mileage with me behind the wheel ;-) )
Yeah. If I don't get this Z I'm def. gonna be looking all over the country. My goal is to find one with t-tops, power everything, and the M6. But the hardest part is I'd really love to find one with under 40 or 50k miles on it. That's the main reason I'm so seriously looking at buying this one, even though it has the A4, it only has 37k miles and it's right here in my own town, you know? But I would be willing to make up to like a 24 hour drive back (take a greyhound out) to pick one up if I could find one that matched my criteria perfectly, Edit: I would drive over 24 hours back but only if I absolutely knew everything about the car before going out and was 98% positive I'd buy it
