82 Berlinetta w/ 355ci Speedway crate- what the heckski!
I wasn't a member and really hadn't thought about Camaros since 1969 high school graduation when I woke up this morning. Blame it on CL and the auto section- For Sale 1982 Berlinetta with 355ci Speedway crate, fast, original paint, no rust anywhere, too many projects, etc.. So, went to look as it was only 20 min. away, too hot even at 6000' Colorado and I needed distraction. Kinda plain Jane white, newer red Grey cloth upholstery, 3spd AT in the console (hoping for a 4spd Hurst stick) and under the hood, a like new bad *** 355ci Speedway crate 375hp SBC, New dual exhaust, 600 Edelbrock, MFI ignition. Seemed high geared but 100mph came too quick (whew, no hay equipment on the road, big smiles. So, drive it home Tuesday, 5 months of Social Security checks, watch out North Fork Valley!
I found the Blueprint tag #31 2669 - a basic 355", iron heads, flat tappet, dynoed at 314 hp in 2016. Crawling under the beast, trans. was dry, clean, with Metric and Hydra
matic stamped in the pan- no elec. wires! TH 200 but shifts/kicksdown crisp- must be a rebuilt. Any idea what the diff. ratio is ?? near x
75 mph 4500 rpm in 2nd gear and might rev to 6000 !
Finally found the spare residing behind the rear panel. Space saver tire unused, shiny Craftsman 1/2" breaker bar, a pair of 3/4" sockets, jack, all wrapped up in a gnarly wife-beater t-shirt from Johnny's Diner, Colorado. Love it! Still looking for a bag of weed...

I am guessing it has been rebuilt. Those Th200 metric transmission were a problem even with the 145 HP 305 they had been put behind behind. The TH200 can be built strong but It was not that way from the factory. Without a lock up converter your not going to figure out exactly what rear gear you have. You will have to jack it up put it in neutral and turn the wheel. Then just count how many times the shaft spins or turn the driveshaft and see how many time you have to turn it to get the wheel to turn one time. I am assuming it is not stock. Most likely a posi. If it was original you could just find the RPO codes and from the factory sticker. If i remember right in the early 3rd gen that sticker was on the spare tire cover. Later years it was in the glove box but I am old I maybe getting that backwards.
BTW nice find. You don't see that solid unless they have been a show car or restored where I am at. That solid of a car would be pretty pricey.
The weed should be stuffed behind the spare or up in the head rest.
