Default 3rd gen new guy here

Let me start by saying my car isn’t a 3rd Gen Camaro, although I love those cars. I bought a 1955 150 and the drive train came from a 3rd gen Camaro. The engine is a 305 with TPI. The man I bought the car from was a collector, not a wrench turner. He had a local mechanic do all his work. Whatever he paid his “mechanic “ was too much. My shifter rods were a disaster botch job, but I digress.

My car is stalling at random. Kind of unsettling, when I couldn’t get to the shoulder. After stopping I can get the car to restart. It seemed like the ignition was turned off. I pulled the ignition switch and found the Bat terminal to be loose. I replaced the ignition switch, patted myself on the back for a job well done. Went out for a spin, but didn’t get far before stalling out. For all I know the fuel pump and filter could be circa 1985. In other words, highly suspect. I checked fuel pressure at the rail and measured 38 psi steady. With pump off for 10 minutes pressure dropped to 33 and held steady. Troubleshooting to continue today. Will search to forum now for more clues.

might try a new ignition control module in the distributor it is the one that seems to have the most issues. if makes no difference then save it for future use.

Default Cause of random stalling

Problem turned out to be fuel starvation. Whoever modified the original gas tank to accept an internal pump for the engine, did a poor job. When I dropped the tank, I found numerous globs of red silicone like material floating in the tank. When fuel was low they must have been restricting gas to the pickup tube, by clustering around the strainer. I can envision when the car stalled and pump no longer pulling in the globs, they would drift away and the car would start again.
