When you do the Opti it's a good idea to replace the wiring harness which is also a common fail point.

I bought a Petris that includes the electrical harness assembly. I read a lot of reviews on a couple of forums. Hopefully it is what I need!
Thanks

Something seems off. The car runs on starting fluid would kind of prove it is not an opti issue? Opti is a known weak spot but the is because of moisture coming in the vents and getting the optical part dirty. The fact GM put the opti right in front of the weep hole in the water pump has been considered the main issue. The are tons of thread back in the day of people adding drain plumbing to the pumps to avoid the opti issue. GM's fix for this is to remove the vent for the opti all together. I have the GM performance Opti for my 93 from about 2009 and it did not have a vent.

When opti do fail the normally will run bad for a while before the stop working. Of course sitting for almost 9 years does take this car into the not normal zone so who knows, but I would think a fuel injector relay failing or a bad ground to be more of a time thing then an the Opti.

agree with gorn, if it runs on starting fluid its not a spark or ignition problem. if injectors are being told to fire and its not running then I would suspect the injectors are plugged or frozen up with goo from build up of varnish

I finished the project after working a couple of hours every afternoon and having a two- week delay running a fever with covid. Decided to replace most items I had to remove. I replaced the opti spark with a Petris and the water pump, plug wires, coil, and the ignition control module. It fired up on the first crank.
Thanks for all the help!! I'm sure I'll be back with something else soon.
