Looking for a less expensive alternative to Wyotech and UTI?
I wanted to get the word out about a great program in the Kalamazoo Michigan area that could attract people from around the country that are interested in getting training for a career as an automotive technician. The program is called the Automotive Academy and it is held at MTEC which is part of Kalamazoo Valley Community College. It is training to gain knowledge and confidence in the 8 areas of certification to be a master auto technician. This program is very similar to UTI and Wyotech. This program starts on November 2, 2009 and runs through June 28, 2010, and costs $9,500, this includes uniforms, access to service information, textbooks, and even a complete tool set with rolling cabinet is included (this is no small tool set either, it is designed so you can perform all hands on training and tasks associated with training), you keep the tools after the academy to use when you enter the field. Eligible students can work with financial aid to see if they qualify for assistance. This is a very good deal and a very good program. I will leave a link to the Auto Academy which will have all the information, including an application. There is still space left for the upcoming Academy. If anybody is interested, please post here and I will answer your questions.

Check with your local community college. There are quite a few that offer an associate degree in automotive technology, and the tuition is reasonable as they are supported by the state and county, and makes you eligible for government sponsored tuition aid. It is a tougher course of study than a plain tech school, and takes at least 2 years to complete. The good part is that you get real college credits that can be trabsferred towards a bachelors degree in engineering, should you get the urge to go further.
