If you switch to a low micron filter be sure to get several filters. Because the smaller micron filters will clog up from cleaning the out the larger particles. Also you'll will notis that the oil pressure gauge will read lower from the smaller micron filters. You'll know when to change the filter when the oil pressure go's up from the oil bypass valve opening when the oil filter is full or about full when it higher when cold and lower when warmer, for syn. oils. (good syn. oils normally don't have a high oil pressure when cold.)
If you have some miles on the engine you will have a small increase in oil use, until the syn. oil has flushed out most of the grime out of the piston rings, the it should go down. If you have a good engine. I lived in Alaska where it gets -50 and lower.
