wondering which is a better cam?

I was just wondering which is a better cam for street i dont think im going to be going to the track anytime soon but when i do go i wanna run 12's w/o spraying im just going to be driving the car around for now.And when they say computer tuning required can i buy a programmer or does it have to be taken to a shop?and i also plan on getting my heads ported later.....


Comp Cams "306" LT1 Camshaft, 230 / 244, .510 / .540 112 LSA, Very aggressive street/strip cam. Good top-end power. Heads, Headers, High Stall or M6, Gears, Computer Tuning Required. OR

Comp Cams "Extreme" LT1 Camshaft, 224 / 230, .502 / .510 112 LSA, Strong mid-range with good top-end power. Heads, Headers, High Stall or M6, Gears, Computer Tuning Required.

You can probably expect the 224/230 cam to be more driver friendly. Torque will be better and it it'll pull harder from 2500 - 4000 RPM. The 230/ 244 isn't a street friendly cam and You'll probably have Guide / Retainer clearance issues with the exhaust lift. What gears do You have? How about transmission, Automatic or Stick? A really sticky tire will probably be needed too. I'd get the heads ported first and use their flow numbers to choose a cam. Then You'll need to go after the exhaust...and on....and on....and on...So make Your decisions wisely.

well i have mild work done to my lt1 and i paid around 340 for a custom grind cam and it says it needs computer tuning and so far i havent even though it is still in the shop me an dmy mechanic from here to there take it out and i did not have any clearence issues and im running 1.5 rockers
