What engine oil is the best?

RE: What engine oil is the best?
well it depends on how much you want to spend, royal purple is really good but its around $7-$9 a quart, but if your looking for a good brand that isnt that much i would go with castrol, or mobile 1. synthetic will always be better than regular, it has added protection that regular cant do.

This may show some of my ignorance here, but I think oil is oil. As long as you stay within the regular maintenance and change the oil filter frequently, you shouldn't have any problems. The only oil that I have used and could actually see a difference was the max life oil. And the only difference was stopping a valve cover leak. I have a 97 Z28 vert and it has 140,000 with no internal problems.

The main thing is to chenge oil & filter frequently, mainly to avoid circulating abrasive crap throughout the engine and cause damage. A full flow oil filter is not really what it is advertised, as it will allow the oil to bypass it if the pressure is high, such as in a cold engine, or if the filter gets clogged. Newer engines with tight clearances will cause regular oil to break down faster than synthetic. Also highly modified engines using racing tolerances will benefit fron high viscosity synthetic. But IMO the 7500 mile oil change is a big risk, as any oil is much cheaper than a blown engine.
