want to buy a 93 camaro that needs a fuel pump i think
well i found a 93 with the LT-1 and i really like the car it needs some work and i can handle just about all of it my self. The guy selling it to me said that the car has been sitting for about a year and that i needs a fuel pump. do they go out offten? the guy that owned the car before the guy im buying it from killed him self in it. ran tubes from the tail pipes. the guy im buying it from said it ran out of gas and that is why it needs a fuel pump... i checked to make sure it had power to the pump but not sure how much it should have??? also i know i need to drop the tank to replace it is this a big pain or not ??? one more thing i know that my roomates mustang a 03 has a fuel reset button. he had a fues go bad and them dam fords dont make anything easy had to get the dam users manual to change a dam fuse. but that where i found the fuel restet button so i guess its not such a bad thing. do the chevys have these or is it just on newer cars??? well thanks for helping me inadvance. im sure i will have lots more ?'s if i buy this thing. buy the way im trying to get it for $1300 is that a good price??? thanks again TIM
I assume that the person killed in the car died because of an accident. If this is the case, I would leave that car alone, as it must have taken a pretty serious hit in order to kill some one in it. Aside from the idea that some one died in the car I am driving, is pretty spooky.
That is pretty sad, but then the car should be OK. Before you go tearing into the fuel pump, whch is a real pain to change, replace teh fuel filter, get a FI pressure gage and test the fuel pressure and the pressure regulator. If the pressure is too low, then change the pump.
thanks pete i am new to this site and so far i love it i can read this **** for days lol. i am going to check it out this week. btw do they have any reset button that i can push please tell me yes lol thanks again.
As far as I know, there is no reset buttom. However there is a test lead, a connector with just one wire sticking out of the right side wiring harness running over the fender. This wire goes directly to the fuel pump, and you can use a voltmeter to check the voltage at the pump. Connect the VM, + to connctor & - to ground, Turn on ignition key, but don't try to start, you should see 12 V on the lead for about 3 seconds. This indicates that the PCM is trying to prime the FI system. You can also connect the lead directly to 12 V using a fused jumper & see if the pump works, this bypasses all relays & fuses. Make sure the jumper is fused to prevent starting a fire in case there is a short.
Sorry for the hijack . . . Pete, is it the same on a 97? I've looked under the hood and don't see any lone wire. Can I just pull the relay and jump it from there?
Look for a large wire harness between the AC plumbing and the rigth wheel housing. Out of this harness there is a smaller harness running out near the PCM. This harness has a large connector which goes to the lights. On the firewall side of this connector there is a short 6" wire coming out of the harness, with a single connector hanging in the breeze.
no problem on the hijack i need all the help i can get on this dam thing lol.. pete your info is the best i have recived form anywhere. I am almost positive that i need to change out the fuel pump going to do it on sunday. ill let you know how it goes. again thanks pete and everyone else out there. Tim
