Default vavle adjustment help

i have a 95 camaro lt1 auto. i am currently rebuilding the motor and im stuck at the part where you adjust the heads. i have a general motors book that says this:
Turn motor till number one piston is at tdc. tighten the rocker nut on number one piston untill all play is removed. once at zero lash turn the nut an additional 3/4 turn to center the lifter plungers in their travel. Now cylinder number one is done. you can know adj the number two, five, and seven intake valves and the number three, four, and eight exhaust vavles. turn the crank then so on and so forth.
Here is my question. Wouldnt you wanna do zero lash when the lifter is on the lowest part of the cam. cause i adj number one two and five but i noticed the number seven piston on the intake side is all the way up on the lifter and that would make sense to adj with the lifter all the way up. how do you guys adj your valves. any help please let me know
