Default valve cover removal

okay so this will be my first time removing a valve cover. i just want to pull the drivers side one off. in my chilton book, it says pull the PVC hose from the cover. then remove the air injection fitting from each exhaust manifold (is this on the drivers and passenger side?) and remove the bolts. now the reason i am doing this is so i can possibly get a casting number to see if i have AFR heads or not. now when i go to put it back in, is a new gasket required?

Required, no. A good idea, probably. If you remove something that uses a gasket, providing you don't destroy the gasket, sometimes you can get them to reseal correctly. If you can't you're going to have a brand new oil leak. I would put a new gasket on if I pulled my valve covers...

Not a good idea pulling the valve cover unless you really have to. Why are you curious about the heads??? If it is not broken, leave it alone is my opinion.
