93 is the one trany that can be run without the plug plugged in. i dont know if any other year will let you do that without harming the transmission. i know it will on the older ones just dont know if a 92 will toast if you unplug it and run the car. what yr trany you lookin at putting in?

If you want a direct bolt in with no mods and everything like that then you need to find the 700R4/4L60 from 93 and 93 only. It is an oddball with a different TCL plug. It is pretty much the same as the 90-92 Camaro/Firebird trans except the plug is different and there is no speedo cable used.

So a 93 Camaro/Firebird LT1 700R4/4L60 trans is the only one that fits with no mods.

Other 700R4s had a square plug for the TCL and a speedo cable instead of a speed sensor. You would have to modify the car's wiring to match the trans pinouts with the square trans plug and use the correct gears for the trans speed sensor and install the speed sensor into the trans cable location. Not hard mods but ones that I would not want to mess with. Also make sure your new trans has the right tailshaft for the torque arm.

Does the car have the mating plug? If it still has the round plug then just get a rebuilt 93 trans. The older ones were not always the best in material quality. For example, GMs best trans design was the TH200 and TH200R4 but they were plauged with horrible quality internal materials. A couple parts from a TH350 and some new clutches and that trans will outlive the car it is in and even handle an 11 second trip down the dragstrip. The 93's trans, even tho it was a one year only trans is going to be your best bet.

For the record, 1990 and up 700R4/4L60's had a VSS, not a cable driven speedo.
One difference between them and the 93 would be the T.C. plug.
