Default transmission problems

I own a 93 z28 automatic and i've been having lots of tranny problems lately. Its like when start the car in overdrive (4th gear) my rpms go up pass 4,000 but i don't accelerate. It's like my gears may be sliping. I'm moving but i accelerate very slowly at an extremly high rpms. So in order to drive it, i have to "auto shift" it, by putting the car in 1st and shifting it all the way up to overdrive, and then down shift. But i wonder if its from my broken tranny mounts, because there are shot to hell. I did purchace new ones, so i hope they work, there energy suspension, and it doesn't get much better than that. Any info or ideas on what i can do about this would be great.

does it slip when you manualy shift it up into overdrive. while in overdrive if you slow down and hard throttle does it still slip, if so i would say you have clutches on burnt. if not it could be a stuck shift relay valve in the valbody. how long since you have seviced the trans? the suction filter could be clogged with clutch debris causing low main pressure. rule of thumb if you drain the fluid and drop the pan and see clutch debris and fluid smells burnt you mostlikey have clutches slipping. give more info and may be able to diagnose a little better.

Sounds like you have either a blown torque converter or burnt clutches.

Might sound stupid, but also check the fluid.

i've checked the fluid and its fine, not even burnt. I just hope its not the tranny itself, it was rebuilt about 1 1/2 ago. So i dunno what the deal is.

also minerman, if i start it in drive, it slips and when i start it in overdrive its slips. But however when i goto 2nd to 3rd (drive), it slips and forget about it when i put it in overdrive. Its like when its in overdrive i have to slam on the gas and increase it to like 4500 rpms just to accelerate a little. I'm not sure. But that is the problem im having

As previusly mentioned, either the torque converter or the tranny is broken. In any case the tranny has to come out to fix the problem. You could go to a transmission shop & let them run diagnostics & see what they come up with.

yes, if the stator is always freewheeling and you in a vortex flow it would give you the same experience because there is no torque multiplication(stator is in the torque converter along with a turbine assembly and lock-up clutch if so equipped) if your forward clutches are toast you get the same thing you are expierencing also. if it does not slip in reverse but is sluggish it could very well be the torque converter as z28 pete mentioned.hope this helps. in any case the trans will have to come out.
