Transmission problem
Hi all, I'm a newb here but have been following this forum for a while (first post). My wife bought me a 94 Z28 while I was in Iraq and I just returned (to acouple problems). That darn pass theft for one, which I bypassed with resistors. The problem I can't figure out is my transmission. Automatic, it shifts fine as long as you don't get on it but when you get on it from 1st to 2nd it will make a horrible grinding sound and I have to back off the throttle. Also, when you get up to about 50 and punch it it shifts into nuetral and I have to back off and it's fine. I have no experience with transmissions and am reluctant to take it to a shop without getting some feedback from somebody knowledgeable. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, I changed the transmission filter and fluid yesterday (mobil 1 syntheticwith no improvement).

With all the problems the transmission is having, you should get it rebuilt before it leaves you stranded. Prices vary quite a bit from shop to shop, so it pays to look around. Make sure they replace all clutches, bands, and electrical components. If the oil you changed was burned or dirty, it is probably a good idea to replace the torque converter also.
Thanks, I'll do some checking around for a rebuild. I had a bad experience with a transmission shop a long time ago though. I guess I'm stuck. The fluid wasn't burnt and it didn't look that dirty, I'll consider a new torque converter as well anyway. Any suggestions on a torque converter? Thanks.
