trans stuck in third
im looking to buy a 95 lt1 and i want to know what im getting into the owner says park reverse and drive works but its like its stuck in third its bogs when he takes off and its hard to light the tires up but it will get goin around 100 mph he had it serviced and there was no shaving in the oil or pan any solutions?
sounds like the tranys bad. lol. could be something like a shift solonoid. call the local trany shop and see what they have to say. it should be a 4l60e so the electronic shift could be failing. has it been scanned for codes? ask the owner. if so what codes came up.
I've bought many a vehicle in my years on this planet. There is one thing that is always a red flag to me. That is vehicles that have problems and the seller still drives it. How can anyone drive a vehicle with bald tires, slipping tranny, leaking oil etc etc? If maintenance is not important, then you need to consider that because what else has been neglected on the vehicle?
If you have the wherewithal, and the cash, to do major repairs yourself, then you can find good deals.
If your pocket is almost empty, then steer wide and clear of poorly maintained vehicles as well as vehicles with problems.
Many years ago an old timer had me measure just how much tire tread actually sits on the ground. That was not with 275 mm tires either, they were much narrower. he then asked me, that is ALL that your LIFE rides on. Do you really want to run your tires down to almost bald, or treadwear indicators. I carry that lesson with me still today and every single vehicle I own (many) will always have tires replaced when they become questionable.
So, looking at a vehicle that is in questionable repair makes you wonder; if the seller didn't care about his/her own life, do you think they will be truthful with you?
