Threw timing belt?
No, its not running. Its dead in my front yard. I tried to turn it over this morning and it just backfires. Im not off till Monday, so it will be a couple days before i get to fool with it.
If there is a good thread with pics on replacing the opti, can someone link to it here for me? Id really appreciate it. My only internet is on my phone, and it makes getting around the site a pain sometimes.
Thanks everyone, and ill keep you posted!
Try this one. It is detailed enough and the pics are decent. If you follow along with it, you really cannot go wrong.

The first time I replaced mine it took a couple of hours, after the third time (the same weekend), it took like 45 mins. Check the connector for your opti spark, not the end that plugs into the opti spark, but the other end. Take it loose and look at the pins. That ended up being the problem on mine with symptoms similar to yours. Take a small screwdriver and lift up each pin inside it on the side going to the PCM. Some get smashed down flat and don't make good contact with the other plug.
So heres a question for you tech savvy folks. Im looking at getting a code reader, and dont have a ton of money to spend. I know that since my car is a 94, it has an OBD1 connector. So if thats the case, any OBD1 reader should work right? I read somewhere on here that 94 is a tricky year because GM was switching between 1 and 2, so i want to have the right tool. Any suggestions?
I'm still looking for one myself. I took it to a shop last weekend to have some AC work done and I was telling the owner about this b@stard OBD system on these 94's and he was like, "nope, it's either OBDI or OBDII , there is nothing else"...so I asked him if he could get the codes for me then, he went out to the car, fiddled around for a little while, came back and said there was something wrong with his reader because it could not get anything. So I said, how about jumping the pins and reading the code from the flashing CEL to which he replied, "no one does that anymore"....needless to say, he could not get the codes for me. I know it has some stored because the CEL will come on every now and then, but the next time I start it, it stays off.

Well, i got my intake off. Thats pretty much all the progress i made. The instruction on that link are great, but i have no idea how to get to any of that stuff to take it off. The pictures make it seem like it no problem, but in real life theres all kinds of crap in the way. Pretty sure getting this car was the worst mistake ive made in a long time.
'94 is strictly OBD1. '95 is the weird year where it is an OBD1 computer but most of the cars have an OBDII connector. So in '95 you need a cable to connect from the OBDII connector to the OBDI scanner.
I don't know why some guys have trouble scanning codes on the '94. I can connect to mine with both my code reader and my laptop without a problem.

I tried pulling codes, when i connect to the port, i get a noise from under the hood that sounds like a computer fan whining. (Best wsy i can describe it) nothing happens after that. The noise continues until i disconnect from the port.
