Alright guys, I was driving around today and i looked down at my gauges and the temp gauge was pegged, so i pulled over and shut her down popped the hood and about that time the overflow was spitting **** everywhere. Had one of my friends bring me some water and coolant started her back up and put all water into the backup tube, the temp went up and up at idle until it pegged again, so i check the backup tube and it was still all water so im thinking the thermostat just isnt opening up my engine for the coolant, so i had to get her home, which was only about 2 miles. On the way home i noticed that when i got my rpms up the thermostat would kick in, and i just replaced that thing, so any ideas?

when a motor gets that hot ... pouring water into the overflow isn't gonna get it. your lucky you didn't blow a head gasket or crack a head or worse. once you have run a motor real hot. it will never be the same again. when you shut off a motor that is hot the temp will rise another 20 to 30 degrees sometimes more. first of all you need to change the oil. look for any traces of a milky color. there is several things that could cause it to overheat. a water leak ( low on water ), fan not working, corroded radiator, faulty thermostat, bad water pump, and the above mentioned cracked head or head gasket. without being there it would be hard to diagnose overheating. sick

 

i removed the thermostat from the car cause i had to get to work today, and it runs fine, but im wondering what are the consequences of that? Im thinking that the thermostat is sticking and i dont know why?

 

there are no damaging consequences that i'm aware of. sometimes in very extreme conditions it can cause overheating because the water doesn't stay in the radiator long enough to cool. but that's only in extreme cases. and in the winter it will take forever for your heater to warm. sick

 

are u sure the stat is facing in the right direction?

 

yeah its facing the right way, today i removed the radiator and it had a nice crack on the side, so i just got done replacing that, and now its runs great agian! thanks for the advice!
