Default There goes my rearend!!!

My rearend was makin some weird humming noise on my 1997 Camaro Z28 6 speed. I had it geared to 4:10 about less than a year ago. I put a decent amount of highway miles on it but never really beat on it. Maybe sprited drives here and there but no tire shreddin. Anyway, after havin the clutch changed maybe 5-6 months ago, the guy tells me the rearend is makin a humming noise. Because i had the gears installed before i had the clutch replaced i paid it no nevermind figuring everything was still pretty new. Now, I took the car to the family mechanic and had him look at it cuz the noise was not a good noise by this point....something is wrong, he says, "The rearend came apart and ruined the whole axle bearings, pinion gear is cracked in half, also ruined the spider gears. Parts are about 1200." Now, here is my question cheaper to fix or cheaper to get better rearend for 1200? 1200 is a lot of money I gota squeeze from somewhere and i cant afford to be blowin up rearends all the time. Now i know some guys on this forum need a lil more detail and specifics on info when it comes to finding out wat is wat and why. If anybody has any questions, or suggestions, or input all is welcome. My Lucy needs some rearend love and fast!!!

you could for the short term look around the local yards for a rearend to install. if you have traction control you would want one with the same. spohns has a 10 bolt or a 8 in but your lookin at 3500 to 4k. this place has em for less but i dont know how reliable they are
