Default Th400

I was wondering if anyone on here is running a th400? I am still running the M6 in my Camaro, but I am worried that I am gonna pull 3rd to 2nd eventually causing devastation to my valvetrain (I have done it before). When I tore the motor down last time I could see where the valve had a meeting with the pistons, but they were not bent, I checked them all. Im not running the most clearance now (.050) and I have only run the car three x on the current set-up. Anyway I haven't really started researching the install, but I believe that it will bolt up nicely the crossmember will need modification, but the driveshaft should be ok to use? Any extra info that anyone has to make this easier would be greatly appreciated.

Price, availability, and the th400 im looking @ is rated for 950ft.lbs of torque. I did some research and madman makes a torque arm bracket conversion, the trans mount im sure i can fab, and I was told a driveshaft from a third gen would work with a u-joint replacement for the 9", and I need a new tube and dipstick. I think that is it....Im doin it.

i've read about it a lot and it doesn't seem too complicated. i thought about it myself but losing overdrive just won't work for me.

sounds like you have pretty much all the information you need to make it happen

The 3rd and 4th gen driveshafts are interchangeable (the same length) so there would be no advantage in using one from a 3rd gen.
Your driveshaft needs to be lengthened about 3", if you are using the same rearend.
Since you mentioned the Ford 9", you'll have to measure up for the shaft length after the rearend is in.
You also need a different slip yoke to fit the T400.

i was going to say you'd have to shorten the shaft as well, but couldn't remember how much, lol.

you'd pretty much have to set the tranny in, get your measurement of what you'd need, and have it shortened by someone. there's also companies that make driveshafts to whatever you need, but i can't imagine that's very cheap, lol

Ahem...lengthened. Just soak it in water for a few days and stretch it.
