Stupid Z28
Ok I got the starter tested and the batt is good. So now I think it might be the anti theft system. Is there a way to temp bypass it. I have a 94 Z28 and here is what happend I was driving and the car shutdown: no gages, no power steering, etc. Hasn't crank since. When you try the engine will not turn, the engine is not locked up. So i guess it is the anti theft thing.
I just had a pass theft problem with my 94 Z28. It turned out to be my ignition cylinder or wiring in the column. I'd take your key to a dealer and have them check in on their test machine, if that is good then use a multimeter to check to see what resistance the resistor in your key is and go to radio shack and buy the resistor to make up that value. Here is a link that tells you how to wire in the resisitors. http://vats.likeabigdog.com/ This worked for me and saved me 110.00 in parts alone plus whatever labor if you have the dealer do it. Radio shack cost me about 12.00 for what I bought. It's easy to do. The page also tells you how to completely bypass the theft deterant system although that will take a few more skills to build the circuit. If it's your key resistor you can simply buy another key from the dealer or do this bypass. Good luck.
ah let me see if i can find the reciept/report i got from a mechanic who fixed that problem for me... ok so my passlock cylinder wasnt reading the key. I got a new one and a new key for 150 bucks installed.
