i believe it requires a adapter harness. the ls system is easier to adapt.

So it isnt as complicated as swapping a different gen sbc motor in one then.

No, not at all. If you can find a 4L80E from just about the same year, then it's just a matter of a few pigtails that need to be spliced in, nothing extensive. The bolt pattern should be the same as well. 4(number of gears) L(longitudal) 60/80(power rating) E(electronic). Basically the same trans, just the 80 is stronger.

Wow this may be what i end up doing soon when im ready to beef up my drivetrain.

4l80 also has a closer ratio shift change between 1st and 2nd so you get smother shifts right on through. the big shift is 3rd and thats when it locks up the converter so you get an extra shift in there when it locks. i had the power gear put in my 4l60 and like it. its similar to the 4l80 ratios.

700R4/4L60/4L60E with PATC close ratio gear set. 2.84, 1.56, 1, 0.70

700R4 / 4L60E 3.06, 1.63, 1, 0.70

4L80E 2.48, 1.48 , 1, 0.75
