Default slap shift question on a4

ok, so i got a 95 z28, a4. stock tranny if it matters, but the (ef me what it called) place where the drive, overdrive, neutral ,rev, and park are, but i have 2nd,d,od,n,rev,and park, no 1st gear option. I noticed today that if i hold it all the way back, like after 2nd gear, that i also have a first gear too. is this bad for my tranny because i dont have a 1st gear option?
im sorry it sounds so confusing, just wondering if its bad for the car cause ut might help me with hitting rev limiter on 1-2 shift

No its not bad. I had the same exact thing. That means you have 2.73 final drive gear in the rear. All it is is a little rubber block under the middle console on the shifter. If you look at it, its a piece with the teeth in it to lock into each gear. I cut half of that block off so I had first as well. It won't do any harm, just don't do 60mph or so and slap it into 1st. It all comes down to common sense.

check your rpo codes, should be in the glovebox or center consol. sticker with a bunch of numbers and letters. rearend is a gu and then a number. like gu2 is 273 and gu5 is 323

LT1s came with 2.73 for auto and 3.23 for 6sp. LS1s came with 3.23 for auto and 3.42 for 6sp. I'm not 100% about the LS1s though.
