Setting valve lash while running- Couple questions
Ok so for those that dont know i had a blown head gasket. Just got done replacing and getting everything back together. I set the valve lash just to get it running. Now im on to doing it while its running but having never done it im unsure of myself and what im supposed to be hearing.
So i start to loosen a rocker til I hear it clacking then tightened til im sure it went away and then a good 1/4-1/2 turn more. My question is, is it a clicking or a clack im listening for? Kind of hard to hear with the engine running. Any tricks to help with this?

You need to listen to the one you are working with or keep a finger on top of the rocker being adjusted and you will feel when all the clearance is taken up. The very loose rocker clack while the tighter ones click, but regardless of the sound they are still loose. A light ticking is normal so don't go nuts trying to get rid of it, and wind up with the valves hanging open.

yes there is a certain amount of clatter but when you listen as you losen the rocker you can hear it when it starts take it in until it stops then i do 1/4 turn let it recover and do 1/4 again. once your done do them all again. second time you will have a little better feel for it.
