Default rear end gears

so my 96 Z28 a4 has 2.73 gears, first, as a dailydriver what would be the best gears to get considering gas mileage especially with the a4? I was thinking 3.42 maybe? secondly, I'm definitely slightly clueless about the rear end stuff so how difficult would the install be? third, where would I buy and what price range would all the necessities be? I'm about to do a cam swap w/ ported heads fairly soon so I was just wondering if swapping the gears would be worth it to do also, mainly if I could afford it.

your good with 342s, its not hard to change the gears,,, its really hard to adjust them so there in right and if the gears are not set just right you will hear it and the rearend will not last long. i just ordered a 373 set from summit with the install kit and marking compound it was 280 bucks. shop in town said they would install for 300 bucks using my parts and kit.

So is there any guide or anything on how to do it properly so i dont screw up the rear end? i have a chiltons book but i couldnt find anything on changing the ring and pinion. Do you plan on doing yourself or having the shop do it?

pick up a factory shop manual for your yr. its in there. also you do get a short version with the install kit.

I do have one more question, changing from 2.73 to 3.42 how much will that affect acceleration?
