Default rear gears ..and not set up right??

ok so my birthday is a couple days befor christmas....so this year it hink im gonna ask to get a new rear in my car(cuz ill ever afford it anytime soon on my own and its the next major thing the car needs) i was just wonder should i ask for like a 4:10 or 4:11 ..or like a 3.73 somthin in that range..... i was thinkin 3.73 cuz its not a race car but ii cant imagin how hard it would launch with like 4:10...cuz with the gears i have now 2:?? ..when im doin about 25 in first gear and nail it it really throws you back so if i could get that from a dead stop it would eat 90% of the cars around here alive

also when i get on it..until it hits about 5k rpm it doesnt seem to wanna pull. like after 5k its like it gets a second wind and just screams from there on up...could this be like the wrong setup of heads and cam? should i get a stall?..like i kno smallblocks are suppose to have alot of topend but it just feels like theres nothing in the low rpms..could this be that rear holding it back and just a round 5k is when the gears finally get up tp speed with the motor?..its just makin me mad cuz i kno the car has a whole lot more ***** than its showin........thx

and sorry in advance for mispelled stuff i tried to go back and check it all but i always miss alot

what kind of carb do you have??? some Q-jets have secondaries that open real late. also it could be your tranny. if its all stock shift points it may not want to shift and make sure your tv cabel is adjusted.

it does have a q-jet carb on it..it was on the car when i got it and i just pulled it off and set it aside so idk a whole lot about it...and the tranny isnt 100% stock when it was rebuilt we ahd the guy mess it and it grabs the gears real hard...idk if it ias a shift kit or there was an adjustment or what ...and the tv cable i probably kno what it is but i would kno it as(that cable over there)..when im crawlin around the car lol

Do you have an open rear or a posi? I recently rebuilt my rear end with 3:23 gears & an auburn posi which work great fora quick launch and still let me run with a decent rpm on the highway. The new edelbrock thunder avs carbs are easy to adjust to open secondaries right away, and are extremely reliable once they are set.

ok so i think thebandit110 hit the nail on the head but im not 100% ...but on the way home from work i was really tryin to feel what was happening..and even at a cruise befor half throttle it kinda suges and runs rough..then alittle after half it smoothes out alot and runs 20x better..like i think it should from a stop...is the smoothing out the secondaries finally opening up?
