you won't gain any hp whatsoever by switching the gears...

u will gain tourque at the rear wheels. to check the gear ratio (block the front tires and use something to support the car just in case) u can jack up the rear wheels, turn the tire one time around and count the revolutions the drive shaft turns. watch the other rear tire if it turns the same direction this will work if it turn the oposite direction u do not have a posi rear and it will take two people to do, one to turn each wheel in the same direction. if the shaft turns 3 and 1/4 turns u have a 323, if it turns about 3 and 1/2 turns its a 342.

hi 97ss well i am gpoing to try craby's idea it seems my camaro loves the 2k rpm even when babiein it. auto trans all my other cars lower the rpm when they hit overdrive 54 mph but maybe camaro wants more speed don;t know where it shifts to overdrive. do sound pretty mean when i open her up a lil totl system with 3 inch intermeadite pipe and dual hiflow cats thinkin of having air inlet bored out it's only 48 mm while our brothers LS1 have 90 mm stock thanks to all this site rules!!! Torque gets you out of the hole faster but too much gear means you will run out of top end sooner.

My car is NA and I switched my 3.55 stock gears for 4.10's. Awesomeness!

Also if you are using larger rear tires to gain traction, the increased circumference reduces the gear effect.
Another reason you see drag cars with balloon tires running crazy gear numbers.

SLP cars had two ratios:
3:23 limited slip Auto
3:42 Limited slip 6-sp
That was it.

Back to your first question. Just put the limited slip additive in and run figure-8's in a parking lot to work it in. You'll probably have to siphon off some oil to make room, unless they didn't have it up to full. Clutch style limited slips need the additive to keep the clutches from sticking together when you make a turn. Without an additive, you get your chatter. It's highly unlikely that you did any prolonged damage. If the chatter goes away after the additive, as it should, then you're fine.
