In the process of rebuilding the engine and am at the point of installing the rings.

Opened up the ring box and my oil rings look like this:



All of the ring instructions online dont show those black and red pieces at the ends of the oil rings. Do these require any special install or are they just butted together ?

Oh, oil rings for dummies eh?
I haven't had an oil ring expander with the molded ends like that before, but the tabs are there to prevent you from overlapping the ends. Must have been an epidemic of guys overlapping the ends, so they do that to prevent making a boo-boo. Yes, the ends do want to butt up to each other.
