pre 98 SS question

what type of engines did Camaro SS's have before the LS1 came out? was it an LT1? i saw some on a slideshow on a website ( http://www.extreme-z.com/appearance/...Name=wallpaper ) and was curious. and im talkin about the models through the 90's, not the old SS's. thanks

LT1 SS's were only made in 1996 and 1997, in 1998 the f-body got the LS1.

MY 97 SS has a LT-1 if it really is a SS? I bought the car used, never have checked into it being a real SS.

I'm guessing 305hp if it's a true SS, or 285 if its not a SS.

But if it's only 285hp, then it's the strongest 285hp engine i ever had, its about as fast as my 03 Ford Lighting was!
