Default optispark

I heard from a friend that you can replace the optispark on the lt1's to a regular distributor in the back of the engine. He said the hole was still back there but you have to drill through something to open the hole up. I have a 95 lt1 firebird and I was wondering if this was possible or even if that hole is back there.

There is a hole there which is used for the oil pump drive. To install a distributor in that location will require that a large hole be drilled into the intake manifold, which will be hard to seal, and the distributor will sit too high and hit the bodywork under the windshield. Also, if the optispark is removed the fuel injection will stop working. Bad plan IMO.

O ok, I was just wondering. It seemed like it would be a bit much since I haven't heard much about it, seemed like it would have worked when i was talking to him about it but i guess not lol
