Default Opti vacume lines question

Just wanted to check to make sure my vacuum lines are in the right place. The one coming from the intake elbow is going to the opti. The one with check valve and filter is coming from dist. cap going to vacuum on side of intake.

Is this right ?

The one that has the check valve installed and goes to the intake, should run to the back side of the distributor, closer to the block. The fresh air hose that goes into the intake elbow, should go into the cap, closer to the radiator.

So if I'm reading how you have it, you need to swap your two lines.

Not sure how reversing the lines would make any difference. Myself from what i have learned on the Opti is u just want some flow from a clean air source. Actually the lower the vac the better. The higher the vac differential the more the elements like water will try to enter the opti. Just to keep some air flow to remove the ozone from sparking is whats desired. The first design just had vent ports at the bottom but somehow water splash made its way inside.

Myself if i could install some kinda little blower to use forced clean air into the opti no vac line would be needed. This would also prevent intrusion through the large pancake seals. Just needs a line to direct air out of the way of any elements that could migrate inside while running or stopped. I wouldnt be afraid to wash my engine bay with a positive press sys. Right now i am.

Just my 2 cents here, take it or leave it.

My understanding of the two lines was they were set up so you had fresh air being pushed into the opti while the vacuum was used to pull that fresh air/ozone mixture as well as any moisture back out. Does it really matter which line goes where? I honestly don't know, but I'm sure the factory decided to do it that way for a reason.

from what i have seen the water intrusion in the opti comes from the top at the wire harness.

Yes I have seen some optis with visible gaps there. Used RTV to seal but didn seem to help. Have read the high idle vac tends to pull in moisture all around the pancake.

Just letting you guys know that after posting this and thinking I had the lines on wrong I went to change them and found that the port on the cap was larger than the one on the opti and the lines would not fit when swapped.

So on my 95 Z the vacuum line (bigger of the two) goes on the distributor cap and fresh air line (smaller one) went on the opti itself

I'm gonna have to look at mine now. I know mine are different size hoses as well, but I'm sure mine are the way I stated. Though again, I don't think it'd really make much difference.
