Default oil pressure

97 z28 80k on car 20k on motor i have good oil pressure most of the time the gauge reads between the 1/4 and 1/2 line at idle and between 1/4 and 3/4 line while driving but if i brake hard it will drop down to zero for a second or two then come back up to normal i am not low on oil and i do not hear any knocking or anything from the motor when it happens could it be just a faulty sensor

yes it could be bad sensor, wires or gage. you can set up a mechanical gage to see if its accually doing what you say. if the pressure is dropping it could be a couple things. poor connection at the oil pickup for the oil pump, oil pump failing, failing oil filter, fram makes a filter these motors dont like, plugged oil journal.

97 lt1 should be behind the intake manifold. yep way back there where is a pita to get to. mine (old style) is on the side of the motor above the oil filter.

there is a oil journal outlet above the oil filter. you can see were my oil pressure sensor is, thats where you can hook in a gage.

Hmmmm, I sure hope whoever rebuilt the engine didn't leave the windage tray out. Without it, whatever oil that's still in the pan could go sloshing forward, but the oil pump pickup is in the back.
