Default Odd idle

I thought I had this fixed, but Ive been running around my house with the cut outs open for a while. I dont drive it far since no tag on it. But today I drove it and ran great, idled good. So I pulled in and closed the cut outs. Soon as i cranked it with them closed, I noticed the idlel was at 1500, them after about 10 sec it idled down till the engine lite come on and didnt want to idle. I revd it alittle, engine lite went off and repeat the process...lol. Does not do that with the cutouts open??? Since I cant pull the codes, what is anybodies idea about this.

Where are the cutouts? Scan the code and see what it says.

Cutouts are on the header after the O2 sensor. I dont have a scanner and with not tag for the street...it makes it hard...lol runs fine with cutout open tho.

Ok. Im gonna bite the bullet and buy a code reader. My 95 has OBD2 plug....but all these scanners say 96 and up......will these work?

Your 95 is OBDI with an OBDII connector. A plain code reader won't work. You will need a real OBDI scanner with an OBDII cable, or a Scanner than can do both OBDI and OBDII cars. Another option would be OBDI & OBDII scanner software and appropriate cables for a PC.
Being that it runs better with open exhaust you may want to check for the possibility of a clogged exhaust (cat, muffler, pinched exhaust pipe).

you are changing the exhaust flow and not giving the computer time to adjust. try unhooking the battery for a while to clear the computer, shut the cutout and start it and run for a time, see if it clears. is it tuned and what mods have been done?
