Default need v6-v8 swap help

Hey im doing the v6-v8 swap and need help on the wiring harness. Will the lt1 engine wiring harness splice into the v6 or what do i have to do to get the lt1 harness to connect to everything. like get a dash harness? or whats the deal there? I have the camaro lt1 engine harness, and engine, and suspession, and rear end. the harness i have though was cut at the fire wall. so im not sure what i have to do to make it work. i also have a lt1 impala engine harness this is in perfect condition and was not cut at the fire wall but that harness doesnt line up in the engine bay the same way the camaro's does. can anyone help?

i guess a good start would be what yr and transmission are all these harnesses and motors and cars. you will need the under hood wiring harness and the under dash wiring harness, the ecm for your yr car in the lt1 model, its late and thats all i can think of. lol.

Ok, I'm gonna jump right in here! After 27 years I talked the wife in to letting me build "my" car. So today I went and bought a '94 Camaro body. Now the fun part, the car came with no motor or tranny. The electronics, wiring, etc. is all still in the car the previous owner didn't take any of it out or cut it, so all the connectors, etc. are in the engine bay and under the dash. Interior is in fair condition and the paint is overall a 7. Now the bad news, the original engine was a V-6. I want to put an LT1 in the car, the last time I did something like this was a '70 Chevelle and it was a no brainer! This, I think is going to be a little more intense. It is an auto tranny set up, so I'm going back with that. Can anyone share some horror story does - don'ts on this project? I'm not in a big hurry to get this done, so I'll be posting progress and pics as I go, but I'd sure like some insight!

these cars are not the same as a 1st, 2nd or 3d gen. they are motor spacific, in order to change to a lt1 you will need the engine wiring harness, trany, engine bay aka k member, front suspension, rearend (base rearend will work but a lt1 with a open rearend sounds scary to me), ecu and maybe the under dash wiring harness. it is a major undertaking and usually cheaper to by a z28. sorry man but somebody had to tell ya.

Thanks for the encouragement! I know it's a lot of work, but with what I paid for this car, the economy the way it is and the amount of time I have. Time and cost may end up on my side. Really, thanks for the "K" member info, that I didn't have a clue about, the rest of it, I pretty much figured and have already been sourcing. Once I get the $$'s estimated, I may take your advice and go back with the v-6. Unfortunately, being a newbie to this forum, I can't post pics yet, or you could see what I mean about the body and paint on this car. Have a great weekend, chao!!

Follow the above link. It is a good guide for what you will need. There is also a thread in the V6 section. Finding a nice V6 body is the easy part. 500-1000 is pretty common $1000 would be a near mint garage kept original 3800 car. (see the link in my sig) That is what I paid for mine two years ago.

You are going to need a doner car for the v8 convertion. The simplest way is to find a doner the same year as yours. This is where it gets ugly. The doner car with a good drive line sell for more then a complete car with blown headgaskets or a blown motor. Even just the engine and tranny will sell for 1200-1500 with 100K on it.

This will be hard to do but money wise the cheapest thing you could do is sell your V6 shell and buy a V8 with a blown head gasket then just rebuild the motor. V8's with blown headgaskets sell for about $1000 unless it is a stick. Headgasket kits cost $200 add in about 15 hours of labor and you are on the road and ready to start upgrading.

I just picked up a V8 project
