oil in the opti is not good. ive seen guys clean them and the car runs fine for a short time. chandlermotorsports is a site sponsor and sells an opti with warranty for a good price. 130 for there top of the line. https://camaroforums.com/forum/vendo...-praise-54550/

why is he saying the ecm is bad? the ecm on these is tough. i would do the opit first and see if that clears it up. if the water pump is new reuse it. pick up a new opti harness and do the opti vent mod. oil is probly coming from the intake manifold seal at the front. its know for failing.

I'm with craby on this one ...if the ECM was bad you would be getting a not communicating code not too mention codes are present.

Sounds like the mechanic doesn't know what he is doing and quickly blames the computer

Or is trying to scrounge you for every penny you got. Lord knows I've seen enough of them where I live. So hard to find honest mechanics any more.

Well if you do buy another computer I need yours since I have a 1993 6spd matter of fact all 93 stuff is scarce these days. Almost to the point to swapping up to a 94 mass air set up lol...

Btw if a mechanic told me I had a mass air car I would started pushing my car home.

it's the front seals which put oil on the opti. Most likely culprits are the waterpump and opti seals

i was going to say something about that but its not likely the oil can get in through the shaft. although while the opti is off it is a good idea to replace the water pump seal and the opti seal on the front cover. good time to replace the front crank seal as well. more likely it is coming from above and getting in though the wire harness where it enters the opti. or though the cap gaskets. the oil can set on the opti where the wires go in and seep in. i would recomend the new opti cap be taken off and put some thread lock on the screws for the rotor and when reinstalling the cap put some rvt on the o ring for the cap and rvt on the area where the wires enter the opti.

If your manifold is leaking it will soon get into the new opti anyway...maybe get that manifold leak under control with new gaskets and seals.
