Check this out https://camaroforums.com/forum/showt...t=37800&page=1 I know it's more than you really want to spend but it's a complete Lt4. I think the last price was $2000 shipped. Try to make him a lower offer.

I might as well just bring it back to base and start pulling the engine out piece by piece and sell the good stuff or something... and just wait til i can afford another engine or piece one together myself. im never going to be able to afford anything massive right now.

If you get it home and pull it out and if the heads aren't damaged you should be able to get the short block rebuilt for less than a $1000 at a local machine shop and bolt the Heads back on yourself with new bolts.
That's assuming the crank is still good and can just be polished with new bearings inserted.

Yeah. Ive got a couple different things rolling around inside my head... once i get the engine here i was thinking is it possible to just swap out the rotating assembly? im guessing not because the cyl. walls are probably jacked up. Could i just pull out the old motor part by part selling it as i go to save up for a crate motor, possibly a performance built or LT4 motor? or would pulling the engine apart, getting a new block and rotating assembly be the easiest way? Im looking for the most affordable option here and since im not sure on the status of the self service shop on base (which is actually right next to where i park my car... well before it blew) what would i need to do these things? parts, tools, procedure etc. any ideas?

Here's a thought, just swap your aluminum heads on.
There's quite a few of these cop car motors out there with relatively low miles on them.

You would have to arrange the shipping but if you get the motor cheap enough it would be worth it and you could sell the iron heads for a few bucks back.

Yup,same motor,just has iron heads.
Good luck!

Looks like a weekend roadtrip to get it if you pick it up yourself.

I always wait till the last possible moment with my max bid on auto before I hit it.

Here's another thought if that doesn't pan out.
Keep an eye on CL,this looks like it might be a pretty good deal.
It's also in your region... http://clarksville.craigslist.org/pts/1446002122.html
