Default need help, thumps when gear shifting.

ok this just started about 2 days ago, i was testing my new panhard rod coming around a corner and i hit the gas, there was a loud popping that sounded like it was in the mid/back of the car and when i held on the gas it would kinda vibrate.

right now i have the rear of the car up on stands, i was checking things out and the yokes, u joints and what not, all looked good. as well as the suspention.

as i moved towards the trans toward the tail shaft, i started pushing up on and wiggling the drive shaft, is it supposed to have some play in it?

when i push up on the drive shaft/trans it seems to move the whole trans/transfilter ect, is this caused by a bad tranny mount? the mount thats on there looks like its in one piece, but above the larger sphere on the beginning of the driveshaft there is a small dent in the underbody, like the thing was hitting it.

so i guess i want to make sure its the tranny mount, pete, JD ? does that sound like its my prob?

BTW it only happens when i get on it a little, if im just driving normal it sounds good.

It is either the transmission mount, or the torque arm bushing attached to the tranny tailshaft housing. Or possibly both. When either one lets go the tranny or the end of the torque arm wind up hitting the floor, especially under power.

ok, thanks man, i figured it was something like that , but you know how it is, second opinions help me sleep. i was thinking of upgrading to the polyeurothane ES mount/bushings, good idea? off hand know of a reputable seller?

POLY MOUNTTS R GOOD N EVERYTHING BUT IF U PLAN ON ONLY DOING IT TO THE TRANNY MOUNT THEN FORGET IT, IF U WANNA GO WITH POLY MOUNTS THEN MAKE SURE U DO THE MOTOR MOUNTS AS WELL B CUZ IF U DONT THEN THE MAJORITY OF THE FORCE IS GOING TO B PUT ON THE STIFFER TRANNY WHICH WILL NOT HAVE AS MUCH GIVE AS THE STOCK MOTOR MOUNTS, BASICALLY IF U DONT GO AHEAD N DO THE MOTOR MOUNTS TOO THEN UR GOING TO END UP IN THIS SAME SITUATION..

motor mounts were replaced at the dealer when i got a new starter last year, its only a weekend driver, and they should have a lifetime warranty, will the poly still be alright if they are new OEM motor mounts, or do i still need to go with poly motor mounts?

thanks by the way all for the info.

I think ive got the same problem, I posted a comment a while back talking about almost a yanking feeling whenever the car shifts. So it would be a good idea to replace the motor mounts and the tranny mounts at the same time? Should I take it to the dealer to have this done, or is this something I could do myself? I have an automatic 94 z28 Thanks

ok well ive had Z on the jackstands for a couple days now waiting for the part, the tech at jegs said they didnt have the one i needed, got it today, and it was the exact one i needed, so i put the jack under the trans and jacked it up just a little bit. I got all 5 bolts out no problem from the crossmember support. when i pulled it down, the trans mout fell right out, it was completely tore in half. got all the bolts out from the old trans mount, measured it all up, cleand everything, and its a perfect fit. will install tomarrow, went out for a while, ill let you know how it goes.

P.S. the neew energy suspention trans mount is way better than the stock, the design surpasses OEM by far.
