i have 1993 z28 and the other week she started hesitating. when i went to get on it, it hesitates and then goes, and is starting to idel rough. i put new plugs wires, new o2 sensors and fuel filter in car and it didnt change anything still running bad. i have a feeling its that dam opispark, if anybody has any idea whats going on i would be greatful, thanks jake z28...................

 

You might be on the right track if it is the optispark

Some of the symptoms can be

* Car suddenly dies and won't restart
* Starts but immediately dies
* Extended cranking to start
* Rough idle
* Sputtering
* Backfiring
* Trouble reaching higher rpm
* Black smoke from exhaust
* Poor performance with car warmed up
* Weak plug wire spark
* Codes 16, 36, and 42 may be set

i have replaced the opti twice, so just to let you know it doesnt always act the same when its going out

do you have a miss or anything like that ? it could be a bad crank sensor

do you have any codes coming up ?

 

hey whats up thanks for dropping in and giving me advise. i put new optispark in and my car runs great now , i put in a new water pump to cause i had to take it out to replace the optispark, so i thought it was a good idea............jake z28[sm=nxsmile.gif]

 

Just to keep things correct. The Lt1 engine is not equipped with eithercrank or cam sensors. All clocking/position signals are generated by the Optispark and fed to the PCM.
