Mass Air Flow Sensor Porting
I was wondering about porting out my mass air flow sensor to save my self 50 bucks from having to buy a bigger housing. I have everything I need to port it at my work. I know you can buy the bigger housing from mid america and it is a 80mm. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how much you can take off before you are going to break through the housing. If not I guess I will just have to mess around and find out, but I just thought it would be nice to know before hand.
Well actually I ported my stock MAF on my LT1. I used a metal hand saw and cut out the fins inside and then used a dremel to sand it all smooth and then polished the crap out of it. I've heard mixed results from several people about doing this. Some had bad problems and their car didn't run right and they ened up replacing the MAF. I didn't have any problems with mine, stuck it in and it started right up and has felt fine since. There's a couple pics on my cardomain page. I think as long as your careful with the actual sensor part then you should be fine. While you have it apart, good idea to clean it with some electronics cleaner. Just be careful around the tiny wires.
well if i did it, I would take the sensor out of the housing obviously. I measured it and i can't take much more than 2 mm off if i leave the center fin. However if I cut the center fint out I can run it on a lathe and make it nice and smooth, but by time I get that far I could order one of the internet and have it here, but then it would be cool to say I ported my own maf haha
