Default magnetic oil pan plug.

LT1 engines.
Use a magnetic 1/2"(1,27cm)-20 oil pan drainage plug
Dorman pn. 65203, oil-tite.

You will amazed on what shows up on the magnet every
oil change.

Just about any engine will show stuff on a magnetic plug at every oil change. As long as there are no chunks of material, the rest is usually normal wear.

You can also cut an oil filter in half and see how much crap those trap.

Default Mag.drain plug

Most oil filters only filter down to 40 to 45 microns.
GM and others have up graded there filters to down to 12 microns, GM has said this cuts engine ware by 85%.
Amsoil has a oil filter that will filter down to 4 microns and a system that can filter down to 1 microns.

If there's any metal in the oil thats smaller then 12 microns the new GM filter
will not filter the metal out. So a magnetic drain plug should get most
of the metal in the oil out. The factory rear diff. cover there's a magnetic metal collector also.
