Default Electronic/magnetic speedo?

Does any one know what year the camaro was switched to a plug type sensor in the transmission for speedometer? i got a new trans for my 1985 but mine was mechanical or gear driven and the new one has a magnetic style? the new trans is not out of a camaro so i had to switch the tail shafts but i think you must take the hole shaft out of the transmission in order to change it to a gear driven.so any imput plz

I think it was in 90 when they changed the cluster. The tailshaft house comes off to change the drive gear. They slip on snug and have a metal retainer/ key.

I thought it came off in the same way. You have to push down on a tab on the metal clip that holds it in place and keeps it from spinning. A tranny guy once loaned me a toolhe had that slipped over the shaft behind the gear and used it like a slide hammer to tap the gear off.
