Default LT1 stroker questions...

I have a 95 Z28 that I am planning to spruce up as the money comes. I am thinking about having the engine rebuilt and stroked to a 383. My question is does a stroker kit make power by itself or does this just make it possible to burn more air and fuel? What is the principle here? Do you have to put a bigger fuel pump and fuel rails in it to take advantage of the extra displacement? And what has to be done as far as the ECU? Thanks for any help ya'll can provide. My real intention here is to build a reliable 400hp monster for handleing these LS1 and LS2 guys around here. Also there is an uprising in the tuner world where I live. Lots of people building the SR20DET nissans. I just want to be able to show them that there truly is no replacement for displacement.

Basically, the stroker kit makes more power "by itself" by automatically making the engine suck in more air (roughly about 383/350ths as much) and that increased air flow should "automatically" cause the engine computer to spray 383/350ths more fuel. This assumes that a: you have an intake and throttle and heads that are not too restrictive to let the additional air in, b) fuel injectors and a fuel system that can go the extra 10% more fuel, and c) an engine computer than understands what has happened (reprogrammed can definately handle thuis although typically most computers figure it out). You are talking about a 10% gain which is within the stretch limits of the stock components. You will definately get gobs more torque and somewhere between 5% and 10% more power without doing anything else.
That said, when you are doing all that work and spending all that money, you can and should add a cam, a bit of head work, and everything else (headers, etc.) while you upgrade the engine, to add even a more -- no reason why you should not expect 25% more without going to extremes.

The increased displacement allows the engine to injest more air and make more power. You will need larger injectors, and a PCM tune. It would be a good idea to put on better heads and intake, larger cam, headers and exhaust system. Once you do a major mod, such as a stroker kit, the rest of the engine should be upgraded to take full advantage of the mod.
