LT1 runs hot at idle

It will lower the temperature the thermostat opens. it might help but the car shouldnt be getting that hot with the one you've got in there. If the one you've got in there is bad that could make your car get hot.

Ok today I put a 180 degree thermostat in. Just a replacement.
When I pulled the old thermostat off, I got a good look at the coolant and looked really dirty.
So tomorrow I'm gonna bring it to the radiator shop and get it flushed.
They said they do a 2 hr flush.
Hopefully that will fix it.

No I didn't flush it. I'm about to bring it to the shop.
I really wanted to do all the work on the car myself, but I don't have any type of flushing system for the car.
I'll post how the car does once I get it back.

Here's an update.
It turns out the car is not running hot !
Its the gauge.
The new temperature sending unit I put in is not as accurate as the factory.
So They recommended installing another temperature gauge.
How hard is it to install that gauge ?

not hard at all. gota run wires or tubing depending on if its mechanical or electric and install the sending sensor. they make a pillar gage pod. http://www.jegs.com/i/Auto+Meter/105/10211/10002/-1
