Today I bought a new radiator cap. The safety one with the lever that lets steam out. I put it on, tomorrow I'm going to bleed the system again.

If I don't notice a difference I was going to do this, and I was hoping to get a thumbs up or down from everyone:

1. I'm gonna buy a 160 Thermostat

2. I'm gonna buy the Hypertech Power Programmer, and use it to adjust my cooling fans to turn on at 170 degrees.

On the Hypertech page it says adjust cooling fans: Cooling Fans Stock, 160 degrees F, 180 degrees

I was wondering if I can go in the middle and do 170.

Any opinions ?

Thanks !

i dont think thats the right cap. what the rating? if your current thermostat, radiator and fans are working correctly, heads and head gaskets are good then i would say you either have air in the head that is not coming out or the cross over pipe is plugged or damaged.

Ok today I'm gonna bleed the system again....Can you explain to me what the crossover pipe is, and where it is located ?

When I went to the parts store, I asked for a radiator cap for my make and model and two choices came up:

1. the 3.99 cap

2. the 4.99 cap with the safety lever on it.

So I just thought I should get the 4.99 cap, but I want to get the right one, so if you think it is not the right cap, I will for sure change it. Where should I get the radiator cap from ? Is it ok to get it from a parts store ? Or is there a place online ?

Thanks for the help!

Does your cap thats on there have the safety lever? Either will probably work, It just depends on the kind you want.

Yes, the cap I bought yesterday has a red safety lever on it.

I think its pretty cool looking.

I just hope it works. It seems pretty tough...becaue to open the lever there is a lot of tension.

If your lines arent damaged or blocked like he said then just keep trying to bleed it. The new cap shouldnt let any more air in sometimes the air is difficult to get out of the system.

Ok, I'm about to go outside and bleed the system again then take it for a spin and let it sit and idle and see what happens.

Ok, here's an update:

I bled the coolant system. The bolt that loosens on thermostat sheared off. So I think I have to get a new one.

I loosened the larger bolt and let the engine run, fluid finally started to come out, but not in a steady stream. It seemed to pulse.

I left the radiator cap off while I had the screws open. But the fluid in the radiator started to over flow and a lot of fluid came out of the radiator Spout.

I checked to see if the fans were running while I was letting it idle. We started the car, and the temp was about 250 and the fans weren't on, but they finally came on. I don't know how long it takes for the fans to come on after the car starts. But it took the fans about 1-2 mins to turn on while the car was almost in the red zone. Again, this was right after starting it.

I have no idea what the deal is.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

pick up a exhaust gas test kit for the coolant. need to see if you have a blown head gasket/cracked block/head.
