LT1 Camaro trans problem.
Okay so i haven't been on here in a while, and I'm looking at a 1994 Z28 Camaro to replace my RS. But my issue is of what i found out while test driving this camaro is the fact that when i shifted into drive (yes its an automatic) it took a few seconds before it actually went into gear. So it took about 3 seconds before it shifted into drive after i put it into drive.
Now I'm not so strong on transmission knowledge, but what i would like to know is what would cause that problem, and could it be fixed easily? or would it cost hours of work and alot of money to repair?
Because before i buy this car, i want to know if that's a fixable thing. Help anyone?

Sounds like a valvebody issue., and could be something small like a checkball / valvebody seperator plate. Maybe leak boost valve. All these things can be done with the car on stands and only requires removing the pan and valvebody. When you order the part from transgo It explains check all placement. You clean the valvebody and then you get Vaseline and dip each ball in it a little to keep them in place and reinstall the plate . But how many miles you got on the z28, because it could probably use new clutch disks(inexpensive) also the 4l60e has a sunshell that is very recommended you replace. Also I have an extra from my rebuild. Mine had gotten rebuilt in he past, and they upgraded it already!H

This could be caused by a shift selinoid or by a pressure problem. For buying purpose assume your are going to need a transmission rebuild to fix it. It the car seller want to prove its something cheap and simple tell them to get it fixed. If not assume the worst.
If the seals in the second gear clutch pack are going bad it will cause this. this would mean a rebuild very soon and may be the reason the car is being dumped.

Thanks for the thoughts Gorn, that's what im worried about is that if its a problem where its going to cost me hundreds of dollars or even thousand. Than its probably not worth. However if its something simple then maybe, as long as the seller can get back to me soon.
I do have a relative that knows tranny rebuilds very well. But just out of curiosity, who knows what would have to be done for the rebuild itself? any important seals to worry about? separate plates? ect.

Ahh i see, very cautious work it is, almost if not just as cautious as an engine rebuild. But that's helpful info about it for a long story short.
And i do have a relative who knows how to do tranny rebuilds, and everyone in my town always goes to him. So if i do get this replacement camaro, i'll probably have him take a look at the trans, for a lot less $$$ relatives, gotta love them sometimes.
Oh and Greg08 the car has 180,XXX
